Top Events for Racing Enthusiasts in 2012
2012 looks set to be a fantastic year for motor racing fans, with intense competition being promised in almost all the major categories.
Not only is there the promise of six Formula One World Champions competing on the same piece of tarmac for the first time, but there is also the return of Toyota to Le Mans and the introduction of a brand new chassis in Indycar for the first time since 2003.
There really has never been a better year for travelling to motor sport events. We therefore take a look the top destinations for petrol heads over the course of 2012.
Monaco Grand Prix
Destination: Monaco, Monte-Carlo
Date: 24-27 May 2012
The Grand Prix of Monte Carlo is one of the only places on the calendar that accurately reflects the ethos of Formula One; combining a high risk and challenging driving environment with unrivalled glamour. It is also one of the best places on the calendar for getting a feel for the actual speeds that are obtained by drivers as they travel at over 150mph within inches of the unforgiving barriers. Three times World Champion Nelson Piquet once famously equated it “riding a bicycle around your living room”.
If you going to visit any Formula One Grand Prix in 2012, then this should be the one. This year’s event looks set to be a cracker with eight former winners contesting the event. Fernando Alonso came close to victory last season, but Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel helped ensure that the Renault/Mercedes domination of the event continued (the last time a car not powered by a Renault or Mercedes engine won the event was 2003). It also means that there have now been five different winners of the event in the past five years thanks to the unpredictable nature of the race.
However, bear in mind that it doesn’t come cheap. While ticket prices for the race are unsurprisingly high; the cost of food and drinks in the surrounding area tends to be inflated in time for the arrival of the F1 circus. Don’t be surprised to find bars where bottles of bear cost 40 euros each.
Le Mans 24 hours
Destination: Le Mans, Pays de le Loire, France
Date: 16-17 June 2012
The Le Mans 24 hours weekend is the ultimate lad’s holiday. Setting off across the channel and setting up camp right next to the circuit with the noise of the engines booming in the background throughout the night surely is every petrol heads dream.
However if you are planning on taking your car abroad in order to complete the trek, it is important not to forget about certain key requirements such as car insurance and breakdown cover. Although the majority of providers will provide the same levels of cover as what would be experienced at home for a limited number of days; this is by no means guaranteed and may not be provided at all with some providers. It is therefore recommended that you check on the cover that will receive for both of these requirements and opt for dedicated short-term European breakdown cover or car insurance policies if your existing policy is not sufficient to cover your requirements or the length of your trip.
This might all sound very complicated, but it is certainly worth the hassle in order to experience the atmosphere in one of the sport’s most challenging events. With Toyota having commission its former F1 team to produce a petrol hybrid vehicle to take on the might Audi and Peugeot teams in 2012; competition at the front of the field looks likely to be more intense in 2012 than it has been for many years.
Indy 500
Destination: Indianapolis, Indiana, USA
Date: 27th May 2012
Indycar might not have either the domestic or international following that it had in its heyday during the early 1990s, but its flagship event still proves to be a major draw for motor sport fans. Always exciting an unpredictable; the event takes place on the famous brick-yard Indianapolis circuit which is engrained in motorsport history.
Although restrictive contracts mean that the event is no longer a draw for F1 drivers; it was once an annual pilgrimage for many of the sports greats including Jim Clark, Jackie Stewart and Graham Hill. This history can still be felt at the event today, with close by Hall of Fame Museum housing many of the race winning cars from the past, including the Marmon Wasp which was driven to victory by Ray Harroun in the inaugural event in 1911. This is certainly worth a visit if you have made the trek to the event.
Last year’s event was won for the second time by Britain’s Dan Wheldon who tragically lost his life in the season ending Las Vegas event. Wheldon had been instrument in the development of the new chassis which is being used by all teams for the first time in 2012. Not only is driver safety much improved, but more competitive racing is also promised. There is also much anticipation surrounding the return of engine manufacturer competition; with Lotus and Chevrolet joining Honda for this season. Expect the usual running order to be shaken out of all recognition with Lotus tipped to have produced a far lighter powerplant than their competitors.
However, there is one problem. The race is scheduled to take place on the same weekend as the Monte Carlo Grand Prix, meaning that it would be logistically impossible to attend both races.

Going on a vacation is something that you wish to have the most. This year you were unable to have the vacation along with your friends because there were so many urgent stories and most of all is because of your office tight routines. Corfu on discount
A low budget vacation may in many cases be as good as a very rich one. In the end, what matters are the place and more the people you go with. This is why people often prefer fun and sunny places for a glimpse of a beautiful and charming life. If this is the case the island of Corfu is the ideal place to go and benefit from the beauties of nature and the kindness of people. Because of this choice we need to evaluate our budget and to make wise decisions from the very start of the journey.
One important aspect is the transport. The fact is that the preferred mean of transport is the plane which is safe and really fast. Cheap flights to Corfu can be found form the beginning of the season. The only two options that will work are the early booking or the last minute options. If you want to plan in detail and in advance the last minute is not a good choice. You may wait until forever and never get the chance to go.
If you choose the early booking you get good prices ahead of time. In this way you may decide what you want and when you want it. Actually you can involve the people that will go with you in this decision. The fact will be that you will end up having the time of your life with little money.
Visit Canberra
A visit to Canberra can yield rich rewards for travellers who want to get a feel for Australia’s history and culture. With just over 300,000 inhabitants, it is fair to say that the nation’s capital punches above its weight on the international stage, and you will be hard pushed to find another city that manages to squeeze so many impressive monuments into such a small space. From Parliament House to the National Gallery of Australia, this is a city that has a sense of significance, but you will also find that there is a quirkier edge to Canberra beneath this initial appearance.
Canberra is located within the Australian Capital Territory, and is the only city within this region. It is very much a ‘planned city’, and its site was chosen in the early 20th century as a compromise, as it is found between Melbourne and Sydney. On average, citizens of Canberra are younger, better educated and more mobile than their fellow Australians in other cities, while unemployment is significantly below the nationwide level. As you might expect in a settlement of such bureaucratic import, the Australian Government is one of the largest employers in the area.
Nevertheless, to focus solely on these facts and figures is to overlook the cultural scene which gives Canberra its vibrancy and creativity. The National Gallery of Australia and the National Museum of Australia are two particular highlights. The former boasts a collection of more than 120,000 works of art, and is as comprehensive resource on the history of Australian art as you are ever likely to find. Meanwhile, the National Museum of Australia charts over 50,000 years of Australian history, from the Aborigines through to the Sydney Olympics and beyond. A visit to this museum will show you just why it has been given the accolade of Australia’s Best Tourist Attraction twice in the last decade.
Canberra is a city that manages to combine both the serious and the light hearted in one settlement. It is certainly unique within the vast range of Australian settlements, and is therefore well worth a visit. Moreover, you can take advantage of rewards on a platinum credit card while you are in Canberra. Any points you save up on platinum credit cards can then be used to purchase flights back to Canberra for another visit.
It’s Hard to Resist Cheap Egypt Holidays
If you’ve ever wanted to see Egypt but heard how expensive it was to take your holiday there, check out some of the cheap Egypt holidays offered by tour operators. There are great deals on holiday packages to Egypt online, even during the high season.
T’s true that some Egypt holidays can be expensive. It’s really the accommodation which affects the price of a package holiday the most. There are few self catering accommodations in Egypt, the bed and breakfast accommodations are usually the least expensive. All inclusive holidays will cost the most initially but you won’t have to buy food or drinks, a tremendous savings. Egypt is very hot, you could spend a fortune just buying bottled water to stay hydrated.
Cheap Egypt holidays with budget accommodations really are affordable. Of course you will need to check out the accommodation before booking a holiday. Look for impartial reviews of each hotel you are considering carefully. You wouldn’t want to pay the extra cost to upgrade to full board at a hotel only to later read reviews from previous guests who universally disliked the meals served. Do not expect luxury at cheap hotels but they should be clean and safe. If you plan on only sleeping at your hotel and being out and about all day, there is little need to luxurious accommodations, just make sure the hotel’s air conditioning works!
